Renewable energy's role in decarbonising international shipping

In May, EDF published a report authored by Ricardo Energy and Environment entitled Sailing on Solar: Could green ammonia decarbonise international shipping? The report describes how ammonia produced with surplus renewable electricity could be used as a fuel for ships. The report uses existing scientific data, basic chemistry, engineering knowledge and practical experience to show that green ammonia can – indeed should – be adopted as a greenhouse gas-free fuel more easily, quickly and safely than people may assume.

At the end of July, we partnered with Ricardo once again to make  the paper more accessible to wider public. We ran two webinars presenting the main findings of the report as well as policy solutions for decarbonisation of the shipping sector which you can watch by clicking below.
